SUMMARY:Ten Thousand Things at Wing Luke Museum
DESCRIPTION:Through an Asian American cultural lens\, Ten Thousand Things examines the hidden stories and personal connections between everyday objects and their owners. \nCurated by award-winning public radio podcast host and former civic poet Shin Yu Pai\, Ten Thousand Things is an exploration of the objects that shape our identities\, histories\, and cultural narratives. Inspired by her experience cataloging artifacts at the Wing Luke Museum as a Museology graduate student\, Pai has long been fascinated by the way objects function as vessels of memory\, meaning\, and storytelling. This exhibition expands upon her acclaimed public radio podcast Ten Thousand Things. \nThis temporary exhibit will be open at Wing Luke Museum through spring 2027.

SUMMARY:Song Cycle – Seattle Art Museum
DESCRIPTION:Song Cycle is a kinetic sculpture featuring ever-changing poetry. Part imagined\, part remembered\, and part observed\, the revolving text is continually inscribed and reinscribed by a 256-character split-flap readymade sign reminiscent of the arrival and departure boards seen at airports and train stations in the 20th century. In the Brotman Forum\, Song Cycle serves as a bridge between this public space and SAM’s art galleries. Visitors arriving or departing might glance up and see a fragment of text that captivates them. The piece’s changing nature reflects the museum’s role as a place for evolving thought\, not just static displays. \nSong Cycle by Chris Kallmyer will be on display through Jan. 9\, 2028.

SUMMARY:What We Leave Behind – Seattle Art Museum
DESCRIPTION:In What We Leave Behind\, Samantha Yun Wall’s new paintings use overlapping silhouettes of female figures as portals to unknown spaces and different temporal realms. It is a story of melancholy\, loss\, and remembrance. The artist is mindful of the fact that these Amerasian children are stigmatized and Black Amerasians even more so. Examining cultural taboos that perpetuate secrecy and silence\, she presents her figures alternately as invisible and hypervisible in stark black and white. \n\nWhat We Leave Behind will be on display at Seattle Art Museum through Oct. 4.

SUMMARY:Mary Jane at Seattle Rep
DESCRIPTION:Seattle Rep presents Mary Jane\, March 19-April 19. \nMary Jane is a cheerful caregiver and unflagging advocate for her toddler\, Alex\, who lives with cerebral palsy and chronic illness—but the American healthcare system can wear anybody down\, especially a single parent. While navigating her son’s health challenges\, Mary Jane meets and builds community with women from all walks of life\, experiencing joy and connection amidst the distress and heartbreak. Poignantly humorous and deeply cathartic\, this semi-autobiographical drama by Tony-nominated playwright Amy Herzog is a love letter to caregivers and support systems of all kinds.
